These books are a good size for toddlers and include most of the original illustrations but not all of them. However I was very disappointed when I read them to my grandsons to find that they were abridged versions of the original stories. They were pretty much "dumbed down" which made them much less interesting to read. As a parent, grandparent and children's librarian I have always read the original versions to children even if it meant explaining a word here and there. These books left out parts of the books that explained why things happened. If you love Jan Brett's books like I do skip these and buy the real thing.
Jan Brett books are like potato chips.....you can't have just one! I started reading Brett books when my daughter was in grade school. I fell in love with her illustrations and cute stories. Now my daughter is a new Mommy and I've bought this set of board books to start my Grandson off with Brett books. Jan Brett's illustrations are so detailed that you can feel the textures of material, hair and plants with your eyes. Though The Mitten is probably my favorite book, I love and buy every book she writes. I kept collecting Brett's books even after my daughter was too old to read these books. This would make a great, different, baby shower gift or for a one to four year old's birthday. "Santa" likes bringing Brett books, too! Start with these board books and grow up with Jan Brett and Hedgie, the Hedgehog.
Just love Jan Brett books. The stories are fun, and the art work is charming. The pictures are all Nordic and very colorful.
I bought this book set for my 6-year-old niece because she had told me that Jan Brett was her favorite author. The books were a lot of fun, perfect for a child who is just learning to read as there are no hard words, but the thing that really was outstanding to my niece and me was the art work. Not only was it beautiful, but very clever too, giving us lots to talk and giggle about as we noticed things pertaining to the stories painted on the sides and tops of the pages. I would highly recommend this set to anyone who likes to encourage children to read, think and discover.

Granddaughter loves it. I love the story and the illustration and Jan Brett's foreshadowing of the next "event" through the side illustrations. I am certain my granddaughter will too.
I bought this set for my 3-year-old nephew for Christmas. He loved them! They were the perfect size for him!
