My son started rather insistently asking how babies GOT IN THERE and then suggested that if I wasn't sure, perhaps we should ask a scientist. I was kind of hesitant as to how much to divulge to a 4-year-old. This book was, as it states in the series name, "Just enough." It uses words like "womb," "egg," "sperm," and "birth canal."All it does when it comes to the big deed is to say, "The sperm comes from the father's body and the egg comes from the mother's body. When it's time to make a baby, these two bodies fit together. The sperm finds the egg and a seed may be planted in the mother's womb."I thought my kiddo would surely ask what the heck "fitting together" meant, but he didn't really care a whole lot about that. He asked if it hurt when the umbilical cord piece fell off and if girls that were little had birth canals, and that was about the extent of it.Then, he hurried off to watch 5,034 episodes of the new and improved Fireman Sam on Amazon Prime. Honestly, watching Fireman Sam was more painful for me than teaching my kid about the birds and the bees with this book, but to each their own.
Exactly what we were looking for! Not too graphic at all. Has answers to more detailed questions in the back for those curious kids.
Mmm nope. Too much info for my 4yo. I purchased this book to help with the conversation about another baby brother or sister coming soon, but I wasn't ready to tell him about sperm and eggs and parents bodies fitting together. So we had the conversation without the book, planning to use it if he had questions. All he asked was if this baby would be in Daddy's belly this time, since last time it was in Mommy's belly. Then he jumped down to go play with toys...
This book was great for my VERY curious 4 year old. I wanted to be honest without being graphic. This book uses correct terminology (womb, sperm, egg, birth canal) without going into exact details (sex). It will help make future “talks†a little easier since she will already know some of the terms.
This book was gentle and age-appropriate. It does try and gently answer the question: Where Do Babies Come From. I bought this book after my child and I read it at the library. The librarian told me it won an award. The illustrations are gorgeous.
Accurate information provided at a level appropriate for my 3 year olds. I like my kids to be informed, but I want it to be with the amount of detail that is just enough and doesn't add any unexplainable details. The author nailed it. Love it!
I wasn't ready for in-depth questions about how babies are made from my little ones, so this book helped make a tough parenting situation easier. It was suited to their age and had handy info for parents too.
