This was a great continuation to the previous book. It picks up almost right after the first book and follows Sam, Lily, and Freya as their actions previously are starting to catch up with them.Lily is being accused of the warehouse fire and is under investigation.Freya and Sam both go to find out more about the child who looks like Freya and how to deal with her.I really like the book and how paced it was. It didn't feel like it was too short or overly long. Then ending does feel a little bit longer than normal. It is also annoying that it ends on another cliffhanger ending.I can't wait to see how this book series moves forward.
"Complicated" is an excellent followup to "Daily life", giving us more of everything that was great in the first book while expanding the setting and providing new villains and plot hooks for later books.Let's start with the protagonist, Sampson Archer, the immortal lich. In book one he spent half of the story as the weak guy, only finding his strength later in the book, after his loved ones were in danger. Not here though. Right from the first incident Sam is using his powers to save others, while still managing to remain anonymous (being an immortal he can't go back to privacy if he becomes famous). And like one would expect from a centuries-old man, Sam is capable of reasoning through things that are happening, reaching logical conclusions, and choosing the best path forward, unlike many protagonists who are only capable of reacting. Last, but not least, Sam spends the entire book perfectly straddling the line between a caveman and a nice guy. At one point he's thinking about how to make a harem work and making jokes about women prattling, on the next he's providing comfort by being close or saying the exact thing someone needs to hear to feel better.His lovers, Lilly and Freya are back too. And while Lilly - and her difficulties - were the focus of the first book, it is Freya who gets most of the development in this one. Freya has the same intimacy problem that Lilly had, but she's been struggling with it for centuries, instead of a little over a decade like Lilly. And this has left her with some pretty big issues that she needs to work through. Fortunately, Sam (both the caveman and nice guy versions) is there to help her with them. Of course, being a vampire, Freya is not a damsel in distress so she's kicking ass again. And using her deep pockets to protect her loved one.But the real show stealer here is Rose, Freya's clone mentioned at the very end of book one. While she spends most of the book being an adorable eight years old, she has a few scenes where she demonstrates that yes, she has the same powers her 'mommy' has and no, she has no problem using them to protect her new family.A couple of other secondary characters, one which had appeared in book one, are great fun too. In fact, most of the supporting characters are interesting and have their own personalities instead of just playing a role that the story needed.As for the book's villain? Well, the less said about that him the better. Damn if I didn't spend most of the book wishing Sam or Freya would show him why you don't want to mess with immortals. So yeah, no shades of gray here. Immortal is a black and white morality book that will leave will happy to see the good guys win and the bad guys get their comeuppance.Long story short:- Did you like book 1? You will love this one.- Do you like harem, ruthless and intelligent MCs, superpowers or slice of life stories? Go buy book 1. You won't regret.
Great.story, writing and characters. Can't wait for the next book in series, absolutely want to find out more about the lives of the characters. Perfect editing and proofing. Read it nonstop, super exciting.
I have been looking forward to read this book since I read the first one a while ago, and it has definitely been worth the wait (please write faster!).Freya, Lily, Rose and Sam are genuinely good people that can't catch a break from the evil shadow organisation that has been haunting Sam for decades. We feel their love and pain, and how they as a family grows through their experiences.I am a sucker for good romance, people and relationships in these kind of books (more so than the action-parts) and he delivers very well. Dates, proposals (plural!) and some adult recreation too gave me lots of good feelings and emotions throughout the book.I can't wait for the third book to come out, as the ending left some open and new questions. Not a big cliffhanger, but a big teaser of what the next book will continue towards.
The thing i like most about this series is the characters. They are lovable, and cute. I cant wait for book 3. Looking forward to omega squad 2 as well.
In LOVE with all the main characters, plotline is fantastic, good guys are dealing well with the bad guys, good twists and turns in the plot, what more can I say?
Fun second book, well paced, interesting characters. Looking forward to where the story goes in book 3. And what happens with Lexi and Heidi.
Still a journey for the MC to expand his power, his love. The book is faster, more defined. I like it.
