If you like Shark Tank, and enjoy Barbara's common sense approach, then you will enjoy this book.I looked forward to it, and read it within a couple of days.Her writing style is easy, like having a conversation with her (where you only get to listen! ha!).It can be a little bit confusing, with the flipping back and forth between locations and stages oflife, but as long as you pay attention, you won't get lost.I would have liked to have had a little bit more about her Shark Tank years, but her drive and creativitywill inspire you to be more inventive in your own life!Thank you Barbara, for sharing what made you successful, and how you definitely think outside of the box.
Barbara's book was an autobiographic infusion between her childhood and her journey to success in business. She describes both almost simultaneously, as if each chapter is split (but not intermingled) between her business journey and childhood memory. Many of those childhood memories reinforce her attitudes she had later in business and life. Of course, it is widely known that she is one of the stars of ABC's Shark Tank. That is what brought her into the eyes of the public hence the name of the book "Shark Tales". As you would expect, she makes references to her experiences on the show as well. Her main takeaways/tips for the reader are: trust your gut, you can't fake passion, dress the part, do your homework, fancy talk don't work, pushy people deliver, you gotta have a gimmick, everybody wants what everybody wants, step apart from the crowd, expand before you're ready, be willing to flip, shoot the dogs early, fun is good business, pick good people.
If you want to know what it takes to start a business, what it takes to run a business, and what it takes to turn that business into a screaming success--then you want to read this book.While Barbara Corcoran's book is an engaging and easy read (more like a novel than non-fiction) it nonetheless encapsulates what so many of of us find out the hard way as we found start-ups and slug our way through to profitability and success. I wish I'd read it years ago. While I may not agree with everything she espouses you certainly can't argue with the results she's gotten.So do yourself a favor...just buy this book. (You can thank me later...)
I had a hard time staying engaged with it throughout parts, but I enjoyed it all the same. Mrs. Corcoran seems to be a pitbull of a business woman disguised as a sweet, ever-smiling and charming lady. The entire book is basically her noting the lessons she learned during her childhood and applying them to challenges she faced in becoming a real estate tycoon. Great and inspiring book for every entrepreneur, especially for the young ladies. I will save this for my two year old daughter to read when she becomes older :)
This was better than I expected, actually I purchased it because I didn't especially like Barbara and was wondering what made her so arrogant.Must say her background was fun to read about and quit surprising, her writing style or whoever did it for her, made it compelling and a quick read to relax with. I fully recommend this book for relaxing entertainment while delving into the mind of a winner.
If you enjoy books like rich dad poor dad, this follows a similar theme with lessons she learned from her childhood weaved intricately with her lessons in business. She also uses specifics on what exactly she did such as wording, ideas, etc which makes this book not only extremely entertaining but very helpful as well
I bought this book because I thought it would delve in the art of the deal. Well, it turned out this book is more about Barbara Corcoran's journey to success. Not a bad read, but I wished she would've also devoted a chapter with suggestions for entrepreneurs on how to approach their own journey.
I love this book. The book teaches you how to help others, be creative, and find solutions, even if it seems impossible - all things I love to do today. I just turned 30 last week and I feel that I need a change and will be pursuing real estate. Thanks to this book, I know I have the qualities and will to succeed. I love the short lessons from Mom and the creative ways Barbara found to incorporate them as she fought her way to the top. Watching Barbara on Shark Tank, I felt she was really genuine and I did more research on her. She finds opportunities others may not see or realize and makes them work. She is the person that I felt most connected to and I am glad she fought for her spot on the show. Great book. Read it and use the lessons in it to create your business. I know I will!
This book is interesting and entertaining. It's certainly full of lessons everyone should have learned in life, and it is worth reading for that aspect alone. Although I have always admired Barbara for who she is, my respect has certainly grown now that I know about her upbringing. She was not handed any material advantages along the way, but her mother and father are true gems in what they did to raise their family with what little they had. I wish I could have been in her growing up years, as the nicknames her cohorts had were hilarious, and that leaves me wondering what I might have been called. This is a lady with true gusto and uncommon common sense, with which her book gleefully indulges the reader and leaves them wanting more. Very few people could pull off what Barbara has done with this book. Kudos for a job well done!
